|
What
should I consider before transferring my domain name? |
|
Before
transferring your domain name to RegisterDirect you should
check if you have any existing services set-up for your
domain name. These include such things as email and web
sites. If you make a full transfer to RegisterDirect you
will need to set-up these services on our system after
transfer.
If you make a Registrar Only change to RegisterDirect
leaving the DNS or name servers with your current provider,
make sure your current provider will allow this. Many
large telcos such as Xtra and Clear, remove your domain
name from their DNS servers after transferring Registrar.
|
|
What
is a UDAI and where do I get one? |
| |
To
transfer between Registrars you need the UDAI or Unique
Domain Authentication ID for your domain name. This
is a special code that is reset every time you make
a transfer of Registrar. Your current current Registrar
must issue you with this upon request. Usually they
will email it to you.

How
do I transfer my .nz domain name to RegisterDirect? |
| |
You
can transfer your .nz domain name for free from our
domain transfer page here
Enter the domain name to transfer (without the www),
the UDAI for your domain name (see above) and a valid
email address that is NOT at the domain
name you are transferring. This email is used to send
you the confirmation email that includes your Account
ID and Password used for logging into our web site.
A copy of these details is also sent to the Registrant
email contact for the domain name.
After your transfer has been confirmed, check your email
and use the Account ID and Password to begin setting
up services for your domain name.

How
do I transfer my .com domain name to RegisterDirect? |
| |
You
can transfer your .com domain name from our domain transfer
page here
Ensure that before you transfer the domain name, the
Registrant email address for your domain name is valid
and that you can receive email sent to this. To check
the email address associated with your domain name,
you can do a WHOIS lookup at www.networksolutions.com - if it isn't valid, you will need to contact your current
Registrar to update the details before attempting to
transfer.
There is a fee associated with the .com transfers. This
fee adds an additional year onto the current term of
your registration. ie. if you have 2 months left on
your registration, transferring to RegisterDirect will
result in 14 months remaining.
When transferring your .com domain, it's important to
read ALL messages sent to you by ourselves and your
current Registrar. You are required to confirm emails
for the transfer to be accepted.
Once
transferred (5 - 10 days) a confirmation email that
includes your Account ID and Password used for logging
into our web site will be emailed to you.
After your transfer has been confirmed, check your email
and use the Account ID and Password to begin setting
up services for your domain name.

|
What is the difference between a 'Registrar only change'
and 'Transfer with change of name servers'? |
| |
If
you want to take advantage of our free services such
as email and URL redirection you will need to make a
full transfer. This is the default option checked. To
change Registrar and name servers to RegisterDirect.
If
you simply want RegisterDirect to take over your annual
billing for your domain name, and you do not wish to
use any of our services other than our interface for
updating your domain name details and delegating DNS
servers, choose the Registrar only option.
|
|
How long will it take for my transfer to become active? |
| |
If
your transfer is for a .nz domain name, it will become
active at one of the daily .nz zone builds. These occur
daily on the hour, every hour.
If your transfer is for a .com domain name, it usually
takes between 24 and 48 hours for your transfer to become
active worldwide.
|
|
My domain name still doesn't appear to be active, what
should I do? |
| |
After
24 hours, if your domain name is still not active, check
with your previous Registrar or ISP to confirm they
have removed your domain name from their DNS servers.
If you intend to set-up email accounts on our system,
check with your ISP that they have also closed your
email accounts.
If you're still having problems, get in contact with us and we'll investigate the problem for you.

|
I have multiple domain names with the same Name Holder
to transfer, can I have these all under one Account ID
and Password? |
| |
Our
system issues you with a new Account ID and Password
for each domain name you transfer. However, if all your
domain names have the same legal name holder. ie. ABC
Company Ltd we are able to merge them to one account
for easy administration.
Please contact us to arrange this.
