What is MailScreen MX?

MailScreen MX is a combination of a statistical algorithmic hybrid filter achieving real world Spam filtering rates higher than 99% and robust heuristic virus detection by NOD32 protecting email from known and yet to be discovered viruses.

How does MailScreen MX work?

Once MailScreen MX is activated, any email destined for an email address at your domain name will first be analysed for spam. MailScreen MX is capable of learning your individual email patterns based on what you tell the filter spam is and isn't. This allows MailScreen MX to provide highly accurate, personalised filtering for each email user on a domain name.

After the email is analysed it's then past to the NOD32 Anti-virus engine for virus scanning. One of NOD32's unique technologies is its world-leading heuristic detection engine. This heuristics engine alone has successfully detected more than 80% of all new in-the-wild viruses without specific signature updates and without false alarms. This means new worms and viruses are detected fast and sometimes before they are even known to anti-virus researchers.

What happens when a spam or virus is detected?

If MailScreen MX detects a spam, you have two options;

Quarantine offending messages:
Spam will not be delivered to your email address saving you time and money. Instead it is saved to an online quarantine box for 14 days where you can login regularly to check for false positives or legitimate email.

Deliver message with a tagged [SPAM] subject line:
Spam will be delivered to your email address with a special [SPAM] tag contained within the subject line. This allows you to set-up filtering or message rules in your email software to move the offending message to a folder for review.

If MailScreen MX detects a virus, the offending message and it's payload are deleted and not delivered to your email address. If MailScreen MX is unable to scan an attachment, for example it may be encrypted with a password, then the subject line will warn you of a possible virus.

How is MailScreen MX trained?

MailScreen MX spam filtering is already highly accurate out-of-the-box, but with ongoing training extremely high accuracy rates can be attained. MailScreen MX simply requires you to forward any uncaught spam to a unique email address. MailScreen MX will then analyse the spam and update it's token dictionary. Likewise, if a legitimate email is quarantined (known as a false positive) you simply tell MailScreen MX that the email is legitimate and the email is delivered to your email box.
