Technical Information
We've put a lot of work into MailScreen MX and we know it works, but if you're still wondering how it all happens then here's some additional technical information for those with a technical mindset!
Statistical Algorithms
MailScreen MX uses the DSPAM statistical anti-spam engine and has a strong focus on providing better data to already existing algorithms (Bayesian, Chi-Square, etcetera) Combination algorithms work inherently well, but depend on the quality of data. Some of the approaches deployed in MailScreen MX towards this goal include Chained Tokens, Inoculation Groups, Classification Groups, advanced de-obfuscation techniques, automatic whitelisting, and a new noise reduction algorithm called Bayesian Noise Reduction. The goal is to incorporate processing algorithms that can withstand the long haul of ever increasing message complexity while still remaining a purely statistical solution.
Accurate out-of-the-box filtering plus personalised learning
We think it's important to allow you to build your own data, in order to ensure our filter understands your very unique email patterns. No email account is a like, so MailScreen MX provides effective out-of-the-box filtering without losing the ability to learn your unique email patterns. Each email user has a unique database or otherwise known as a token dictionary. As more email is analysed this database is referenced more often and can grow to more than 25MB in size! - the more email you receive and train, the more personalised and accurate MailScreen MX becomes.
Simple-to-use learning mechanism
MailScreen MX allows you to simply forward spam to your "spam email address" for learning, eliminating any learning curve necessary to make it usable by you or your clients. The information used in every calculation is temporarily stored on the server, enabling MailScreen MX to relearn the original message by looking for a small signature in the forwarded spam.
Easy-to-use web based quarantine
If quarantine is enabled (it is by default) then you simply visit a web site and login with your email address and POP3 password to check the quarantine. The web interface also provides helpful performance statistics, message classification history and graphs reporting spam levels.
